Iconic Kurt Cobain cardigan returning to auction block

The cardigan Kurt Cobain wore for an MTV Unplugged performance is up for auction again after selling for $137,500 (£112,000) in 2015.

The Nirvana frontman's widow, Courtney Love, gifted the mohair sweater to Jackie Farry, who worked as a nanny for the couple's daughter Frances Bean Cobain, after the rocker's 1994 death - and she later sold it.

Now, the anonymous businessman who purchased it at auction four years ago has relisted the valuable souvenir, and he is guaranteed to turn a big profit, because another fan has already offered the pre-auction minimum bid of $200,000 (£163,000).

The cardigan was previously described as "a blend of acrylic, mohair and Lycra with five-button closure (one button absent), with two exterior pockets, a burn hole and discoloration near left pocket and discolouration on right pocket".

A spokesman for the auction house, Julien's, emphasised that the item has not been cleaned since it was worn by the Smells Like Teen Spirit hitmaker.

"It's very important that we don't wash it," Darren Julien told Rolling Stone. "The stains are still there. There's even cigarette burns that you can see on the sweater."

The cardigan, which comes with a letter of authenticity from Farry, could fetch up to $300,000 ($245,000) when it goes under the hammer.
