Ian Somerhalder swears eating two breakfasts every day helps him to keep him in shape.
The 41-year-old, famous for playing Damon Salvatore on the hit U.S drama series The Vampire Diaries, discussed his food habits during a recent episode of Harper's Bazaar’s Food Diaries.
"First thing I do when I wake up, I eat two small puppies," Somerhalder laughed. "No, I'm joking. The first thing I do when I wake up – it's kinda strange – I have a first breakfast and a second breakfast."
He then explained that he will have a broth rich in supplements and green juices, which he then whizzes up in his NutriBullet along with coconut oil, cacao, and salt.
After his early morning workout, Somerhalder opts for his second breakfast. This is loaded with protein, alternating between saltwater and freshwater fish and an assortment of nuts, such as walnuts, cashews, and pecans.
But the actor only consumes carbohydrates for treat meals, just like Dwayne ‘The ‘Rock’ Johnson.
"Twice a week, I'll eat just massive, huge stacks of pancakes," he confessed. "But, it's only twice a week."
Elsewhere in the clip, Somerhalder sweetly shared that his wife, Nikki Reed, makes him delicious chia seed puddings that she leaves out for him in the morning, and for lunch, it's more protein and vegetables.
However, the Hollywood hunk is a huge fan of coffee and tea, so he adds a big dollop of coconut oil to his cup to ensure he gets his essential fats.
"If you whip (the coffee and coconut oil), you're binding caffeine molecules to a fat lipid, so your body burns it slower, and more evenly," Somerhalder shared.
