Devoted fashion followers are sure to have grown accustomed to the weird and wonderful trends born from the industry but even the most hardcore of enthusiasts will be left divided by this season’s most talked about shoe.

Montreal-based fashion duo, Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran, are famed for their shock value designs – often stealing the conversation thanks to their fantasy-driven aesthetic.

But their label Fecal Matter’s debut foray into the shoe industry has gone viral.

Earlier this year, the pair teased a pair of nightmarish skin-hued shoes via the social media platform and were applauded for their Photoshop skills.

But yesterday, they made their vision a reality and shared a snap of thigh-high shoes (complete with stubby toes and horns) fashioned from prosthetics.

Unsurprisingly, Instagram users promptly took to the post to share their thoughts.

One simply commented, “I hate this so much.”

While a fellow user was also less than impressed: “It’s a no from me. ‘Thigh high boots, but make it nasty’.”

However, a large number of Fecal Matter’s 57,700 followers were admittedly blown away by the design duo’s debut shoe with many even hoping to bag a pair.

One commented, “Gorgeous. This is art to me.” Another wrote, “This is so delightfully out there!”

“These are horrifying and I totally want to wear them,” a third added.

According to Vogue, the designers wanted to make the now-famous shoes wearable to prove that their vision can be translated into reality.

“We can get this alien look and present it and tweak it with Photoshop and make it look really realistic,” Bhaskaran told the publication. “But at the same time, there is always this dysphoria in us. There is this urge inside of us to take what we do on the Internet and try to create that via real life. That is what we are doing with the shoes.”

But Fecal Matter isn’t the only label to have given fashion enthusiasts a glimpse into the future of body modification, as skin implants recently took social media users by surprise.

Back in August, Kim Kardashian led a gaggle of A-listers in a celebrity-endorsed trend of wearing frighteningly realistic prosthetics.

But it wasn’t merely a craze, as the alien-like implants turned out to be a sneak preview of Simon Huck’s ‘A Human’ exhibition which was designed to explore body modification’s future role in the fashion industry.
