About that big ‘Star Wars’ announcement…

It looks as though Good Morning America may have over-egged their big ‘Star Wars’ announcement a bit as it turns out to be the launch of another Force for Change charity drive.

The new competition was launched today by Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley, and gives fans the opportunity to win a number of impressive prizes, including a role in the Han Solo spin-off or a trip to meet the cast of ‘Star Wars 8’ at the red-carpet premiere.

Very cool but not exactly the galaxy-shattering news we were expecting.

It turns out there are three ‘Star Wars’ experiences up for grabs and all while raising money for charity in conjunction with Omaze. And the funds raised from the initiative will go towards UNICEF and the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

The new Force for Change will run from 11 April 2017 until 11 May 2017.

Simply donate via the official Force for Change page, and you’ll be entered for the chance to win three amazing experiences, based on the Past, Present and Future of ‘Star Wars’:

Past – Spend the night at Skywalker Ranch with a private screening of Star Wars: A New Hope. Enjoy a VIP tour of the ranch, including the Star Wars Archives. Stay at the Skywalker Inn, located on expansive grounds and featuring a vineyard, organic gardens, and much more.

Present – Join forces with the cast at the premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Join the cast at premiere and attend the exclusive, star-studded after-party. Walk the red carpet and get your photo taken. Be one of the first fans to see the new movie

Future – Visit the set of the upcoming Han Solo movie and have a chance to appear in the film. Score a VIP tour of the set and see costumes, props and sets before anyone else. Winner will have the chance to appear in the upcoming Han Solo movie. Meet the directors of the film, Phil Lord and Chris Miller and see how much info you can get out of them!

At the end of the initiative, a grand prize winner will also be chosen to win all three prizes.

Again, it’s kinda cool… but not what we had in mind.

The big announcement was touted as being ’40 years in the making’… leading some to believe that it could be an upcoming trailer reveal, or even a new edition of the classic films – the untouched theatrical versions fans have been waiting for.

But it seems that’s not the case.

Don’t get me wrong – it’s a great opportunity. Force for Change does some excellent work, and it’s no doubt a great cause. This just isn’t the big announcement we were looking for.

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ will star Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher.

Rian Johnson both wrote and directed the movie.

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ heads to cinemas on 15 December 2017.
