SINGAPORE — Singaporeans over 50 years old turned out at selected Huawei retail stores in droves early Friday morning (26 July), queuing up for a chance to snag a Huawei Y6 Pro at just $54.

Long lines formed at the Challenger retail store at Nex Shopping Mall since 7am. According to onlookers, there were a couple of minor quarrels amid the queue.

Police carrying submachine guns were also seen deployed at VivoCity Mall.

Huawei Singapore had announced this weekend sale on Wednesday, in celebration of Singapore’s upcoming 54th National Day. It said in its announcement, “We're celebrating 54 years of nation-building by giving back to the generation that nurtured our country.”

The promotion runs while stocks last, and buyers have to present their NRIC/Identity Card for verification during transaction.

Even before the sales began, there were already Carousell advertisements put up to sell the Y6 Pro mobile phones. Selling prices range from $88 to $120.
