Howe ‘will be kicking himself’ as ‘blameful’ decisions cost Newcastle in Liverpool loss – ex-Magpies boss
Eddie Howe “will be kicking himself” after Newcastle United somehow failed to beat 10-man Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday, says Alan Pardew.
The Magpies took the lead in the first half after a lapse in concentration from Trent Alexander-Arnold saw Anthony Gordon burst through one-on-one to slot the ball under Alisson.
Alexander-Arnold had an indifferent start to the game and his failure to control a simple pass was perhaps down to the fact his brain was fried after being fortunate not to be sent off inside the first ten minutes.
Liverpool were reduced to ten men in the 28th minute when Virgil van Dijk wiped out Alexander Isak with the score at 1-0 and 99 per cent of folk watching the game believed Newcastle would go on to win by three or four.
It wasn’t to be, however, and the Toon Army will still be wondering how they lost that match.
Magpies head coach Howe made a triple substitution in the 72nd minute and this is where many think the tide turned in Liverpool’s favour.

Sandro Tonali – who was substituted five minutes earlier a week prior against Manchester City – came off for Sean Longstaff and the best player on the pitch, Anthony Gordon, was replaced by Harvey Barnes.
The other change was Callum Wilson for Isak if you didn’t know.
Taking both Tonali and Gordon off felt slightly baffling at the time and Howe’s decisions have certainly come under the microscope after Darwin Nunez struck two late goals to seal the Reds an unexpected 2-1 victory.
Former Newcastle manager Pardew has said Tonali was the “man of the match” before he came off for Longstaff and thinks Howe will regret the changes he made with 18 minutes remaining.
“I actually thought Tonali was the one who shouldn’t have come off. For me. He was my man of the match although Gordon was excellent,” Pardew said on talkSPORT.
“He will be kicking himself, Eddie.
“He’ll got into the little room after where you have a little drink with the other manager but usually you go with your staff. But he’ll look at that and think ‘I can’t believe it’ and he’ll blame himself and I’m sure he’ll blame himself to the players as well and hold his hands up.
“He’s played those subs in his mind for the right reasons and obviously this time, it’s not come off.”
