Warmer weather calls for an ice-cold coffee drink to get through long working days. If you're like me, and have come to an agreed hybrid working arrangement with your company, you'll realise immediately that spending S$6 on a coffee twice a week amounts to S$48 in a month. That can be a hefty amount if you start making it a daily habit.

But think of the economics of things: if you make your own pot of coffee at home, you would be able to save so much more in the comfort of your home. How about that!

So I started researching for the best method to make coffee at home, and realised there are two methods: cold brew and flash brew method. According to Xanthe Ang, Chief Commercial Officer at PPP Coffee, cold brews and flash brews are two different methods of brewing.

"Cold brews are coffee grounds steeped for a long period; typically 8 to 12 hours. Longer steeping time results in a higher extraction. This results in more flavours and caffeine being extracted. Flash brews are commonly brewed using your pour-over method over ice and consumed as a cold beverage," Ang clarified.

"For someone who is new to the world of home brewing, we’d definitely recommend using a cold brew coffee maker," Ang continued.

Thanks to the kind folks at PPP Coffee, they shared a cold brew recipe that most beginners can try at home.
