How Captain America: Civil War Ties Into Avengers: Infinity War
The Russo Brothers have revealed how their most recent Marvel Studios epic, ‘Captain America: Civil War’, connects to their next, 'Avengers: Infinity War’.
With just two years until the Avengers reunite to take on Josh Brolin’s Thanos, the studio is deep into the process of putting all the pieces into place.

Speaking to IGN, Anthony Russo said: “From the point of view of Joe and I, we think about all of these movies as a continuity.
"The story that we told in 'Winter Soldier’ set the basis for the story we told in 'Civil War’, and the story that we told in 'Civil War’ is again laying the groundwork for the story that we’re going to tell in 'Avengers: Infinity War’.
"For us, there’s a narrative continuity between the movies, and each movie is in many ways setting the stage for the ones that follow. For us, we have a very specific through-line for all those films.”

Part of the set-up included splitting the Avengers in two, which is how they’ll remain when 'Infinity War’ begins.
“The fact that the Avengers are divided in two and half of them are now wanted by the law and the other fact are not too comfortable with their fate moving forward, and the fact that Thanos and the Infinity War are coming - the greatest threat the universe has ever seen is going to come at the moment where the Avengers are arguably at their lowest, at their worst, at their least strong and most divided since they’ve been formed,” said Joe Russo.
“That for us was a very exciting place for us to be as storytellers because of the vulnerable nature of our heroes in that kind of a situation.”
Speaking more generally of their work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, Anthony said: “We love ensembles. That’s part of what we love about our Marvel work as well, so the fact that we get to carry that process forward into 'Avengers: Infinity War’.
“Not only carry it forward, but at a scale and a scope that we’ve never even attempted before in those films, because those films are so much intended to be a culmination of everything that’s unfolded in the MCU up until this point.”
The Russos are currently hard at work on 'Infinity War’s script and other elements of pre-production ahead of the shoot, set for late 2016.
'Avengers: Infinity War’ - which was recently confirmed to be starring the Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as the Avengers - is set to be released on 27 April 2018
