Hit Japanese drama 'Hana Yori Dango' to get remake in 2018?
Taiwan’s “Meteor Garden” may be getting a remake, and now it seems the original Japanese series isn’t letting itself get left behind, either.
According to Japanese entertainment site Cyzo Woman, the new remake of Yoko Kamio’s shoujo manga “Hana Yori Dango” is looking at model and actress Hirose Suzu to play the lead role of Makino Tsukushi.
Tsukushi (Dong Shan Cai, played by Barbie Hsu in the Taiwanese drama) is a poor student who attends a prestigious academy and gets to know a group of rich and handsome students named F4.
She finds herself entangled in a love triangle with two members of the group (Tsukasa Doumyouji/Dao Ming Si and Hanazawa Rui/Hua Ze Lei).
The role of Tsukushi was played by Inoue Mao in the 2005 Japanese series, its 2007 sequel and the subsequent movie finale.
If the 19-year-old Hirose does get the role, she’ll have big shoes to fill. Inoue’s performance was widely-lauded, especially in the film, and she earned the title of “10 billion yen actress” after its success in many parts of Asia.
Apart from “Meteor Garden”, “Hana Yori Dango” was also adapted into a Korean drama series, “Boys Over Flowers”, which launched actor Lee Min-ho to fame.
