Hillary Clinton Makes Surprise Democratic Convention Appearance With Obama

Hillary Clinton surprised attendees at the Democratic Convention on Wednesday by walking out onstage after President Obama’s speech to join him for a hug.

Clinton was not expected to appear until Thursday, when she will accept her party’s nomination. Clinton was silent onstage Wednesday.

The Democratic presidential nominee’s surprise appearance came after Obama had made an historic speech in her honor.

Clinton has reason to hug the president after he endorsed her in the strongest way possible.

“I can say with confidence there has never been a man or a woman — not me, not Bill, nobody — more qualified,” Obama told the Philadelphia crowd. Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, looked delighted.

“You know, nothing truly prepares you for the demands of the Oval Office … Until you’ve sat at that desk, you don’t know what it’s like to manage a global crisis or send young people to war,” Obama continued. “But Hillary’s been in the room; she’s been part of those decisions.”

However, the line that was repeatedly echoed on social media following Obama’s earth-shattering speech was “Don’t boo. Vote,” in response to collective boos from the audience upon the mention of Donald Trump’s name.

While Wednesday marked the first time during the Democratic Convention that Clinton had appeared in person, she did briefly speak via satellite from New York on Tuesday. She told young girls in the audience that even though she’s the first female nominee, she won’t be the last.
