Hillary Clinton Calls Donald Trump ‘Unhinged’ After He Suggests Alicia Machado Has Sex Tape

Hillary Clinton’s campaign called Donald Trump “unhinged” after he sent out a flurry of early morning tweets attacking the media and Alicia Machado, the former Miss Universe who has been at the center of attention since Monday night’s debate.

The Clinton campaign is trying to keep the story going — and Trump is giving them plenty of help.

Early on Friday, he sent out a series of tweets complaining about campaign coverage but also about Machado. At Monday night’s debate, Clinton chided Trump for calling Machado “Miss Piggy” when she reigned as Miss Universe in 1996, the first year that Trump owned the pageant.

Since the debate, Trump has said that Machado gained a “massive amount of weight” and attacked her background.

“Did Crooked Hillary help disgusting (check out sex tape and past) Alicia M become a U.S. citizen so she could use her in the debate?” Trump tweeted.

He also said that “using Alicia M in the debate as a paragon of virtue just shows that Crooked Hillary suffers from BAD JUDGEMENT! Hillary was set up by a con.”

It’s unclear what sex tape Trump is referring to. But on Tuesday, Machado was asked by CNN’s Anderson Cooper about reports that in 1998, she was accused of threatening a Venezuelan judge after he indicted her boyfriend for attempted murder, and was accused of driving a getaway car from the scene of the crime. She was never charged.

“You know, I have my past. Everybody has a past,” she told Cooper. “I’m not a saint girl. But that is not the point now.”

Clinton’s campaign defended Machado on Friday, saying on Twitter that she “deserves praise for courageously standing up.”

“What kind of a man stays up all night to smear a woman with lies and conspiracy theories?” Clinton tweeted.

Her campaign said that Trump’s comments were “unhinged, even for Trump.”

Machado herself responded to Trump’s attack on her Instagram feed.

“The Republican candidate and his campaign team are again generating attacks, insults and trying to revive slurs and false accusations about my life,” she wrote in Spanish. “All this in order to intimidate and humiliate me again. The attacks that have emerged are cheap lies and slanders generated with bad intentions, which have no foundation that have been spread by sensationalist media.”

Clinton’s campaign also denied that they assisted Machado in becoming a U.S. citizen.
