Egypt Sherrod is a household name on HGTV. She debuted on the network in 2012, stepping in as host of the hit show Property Virgins (Sandra Rinomato was the host from 2006 to 2011) and hooking fans with her bubbly personality and practical advice. She went on to headline the show's spinoff series, Flipping Virgins, which ran from 2015 to 2019. Since then, she has continued to make occasional appearances on the network—most recently appearing on Rock the Block season two. But Sherrod is much more than a real-estate-broker-turned-TV-star. The Philadelphia native plays many roles, both in the media and IRL. Here are nine things you might not know about Egypt Sherrod.

She's a mom of three.

Sherrod has three daughters: Harper, 2, Kendall, 8, and her 19-year-old step-daughter Simone with husband Mike Jackson. As she writes in her blog, motherhood is one of her greatest achievements. "Honestly, it’s the best job I never knew I wanted," she shares, noting that she was the last of her friend group to become a mother. But she has "zero regrets on waiting until later in life."

Her husband is also passionate about real estate.

Sherrod is married to Mike Jackson (aka DJ Fadelf Jackson). While his main job is making music, he and his wife have many shared interests. Jackson is also a licensed contractor, realtor, and author. He works as a fitness trainer, too!

She's a published author.

Sherrod doesn't just share her wisdom on TV, she also writes about it. In 2015, she published her first book Keep Calm . . . It's Just Real Estate: Your No-Stress Guide to Buying a Home, where she demystifies the home-buying experience for first-timers as well as relocators. The book was nominated for an NAACP Image Award.

She's been a radio host for over 20 years.

Though it's taken a back seat to some of her more recent work, her career in the world of radio broadcast is admirable. On-air, she's interviewed Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese, and the late James Brown to name a few. She's also been syndicated in more than 60 cities throughout the United States.

Sherrod got her start in radio while studying at Temple University. She was able to turn her work-study job as a receptionist for the college's public radio station into an on-air slot, as HGTV writes. "So back then, if someone had a call, you had to go over the intercom and say, ‘You have a call parked on 101.’ I would just sort of have fun with that, and everyone at the station would laugh," Sherrod recalled. “So the production director of the radio station, I guess he saw something in me. He said, ‘I think you're ready to audition for a radio slot.’ His little investment of time [shows how] planting a little seed can change someone’s life."

She's a thrill-seeker.

As she tells HGTV, she and her husband love adrenaline-rushing activities like rock climbing and skydiving. One particular skydiving trip was life-changing in many ways. "I actually found out I was pregnant [with Kendall] on the same day I landed from skydiving," she told the network. "It was crazy, because when I jumped out of the plane I started feeling queasy and I thought it was the air pressure, but it was the start of morning sickness."

She has an eye for design.

Sherrod doesn't just know how to sell and flip a house; she also knows how to decorate one. Though she doesn't consider herself an interior designer, she recently spoke with House Beautiful about the meditation space she designed for herself during quarantine. But get this: It's inside a closet. After her home office became a classroom for her daughters (oh, virtual school!), she designed this little space for herself to retreat to whenever she needed alone time.

Sherrod has also shown off her talents in other rooms of the house. She designed this gorgeous nursery for her daughter Harper.

She created her own foundation.

The HGTV star founded the Egypt Cares Family Foundation to help tackle serious issues in underserved communities. According to her blog, the foundation has hosted seminars and clinics to educate families on homeownership and financial planning, as well career advancement.

She's an Oprah Winfrey Network star, too.

HGTV isn't the only place to watch Sherrod. She's made several appearances on OWN, most notably as the host of the Love & Marriage Huntsville reunion specials, and got up close and personal with her husband in OWN’s Black Love Doc.

She's a motivational speaker.

Sherrod is a natural-born speaker. Paired with her passion for helping others, it's no surprise that she also's a motivational speaker. She's taken the stage at Essence Magazine’s Wellness Festival, Oprah’s The Life You Want Tour, as well as a number of other empowerment, wellness, and business events.
