Your fave size-inclusive womenswear label, Eloquii, is working to support the next generation of indie designers in the plus-size fashion community. This just-announced news bite sees the brand sponsoring The Cultivate Award—an initiative presented by the blog The Curvy Fashionista inviting designers of color to seek out an opportunity to be mentored by key figures in the fashion industry and win a large prize.

How large are we talking? Well, one first-place winner will receive a $10,000 grant, a one-year professional mentorship program, and a capsule collection produced and sold on Eloquii’s site come 2022. And two runners-up will each receive a scholarship grant of $2,500 plus additional prizes. There will also be one “voter’s choice” winner selected by the public.

Deciding it all is a panel of notable judges: Lindsay Peoples Wagner (editor-in-chief of The Cut, former Teen Vogue editor-in-chief, and cofounder of the Black in Fashion Council), Timothy Snell (celebrity stylist), Liris Crosse (first plus-size model winner of Project Runway), and Yesenia Torres (Eloquii’s director of design). They’ll be evaluating designers based on inspiration, originality, innovation, and aesthetics.

To apply, any up-and-coming BIPOC designers who have been serving a plus-size (size 14+) audience for at least two years can submit an application at TheCurvyFashionista.com. Submissions will be reviewed by the judges on a rolling basis through March 1, 2021—so if you’re thinking about it, don’t hesitate. Go full send. Finalists will then be notified ahead of an exciting live-stream finale event taking place in May, when the winners will be announced.

The overall goal of The Cultivate Award is to help bring these designers’ visions to life and build up more thriving businesses in the plus-size fashion space. Thinking that’s something we can all definitely get behind.
