Here's Where All the Couples From 'Indian Matchmaking' Are Now

Sima Taparia is like a human Hinge algorithm. In her capable hands, an intriguing cast of singles across India and the United States who have historically been unlucky in love are matched in Netflix’s new series Indian Matchmaking. The show’s allure is undeniable—the singles are entered in Sima’s (old-school, paper) database, and then paired based on their personal preferences, backgrounds, horoscopes, and vibes (Sima is huge on vibes) through their “biodata,” which is like Sima’s own personal Yu-Gi-Oh! Card system, except instead of dueling, the players must get drinks with one another. Like all good bad reality dating shows such as recent Netflix hits Love Is Blind and Too Hot To Handle, the dates are largely cringey to watch, and there is ghosting, awkwardness, and family drama. Oh my!

But the show has been met with equal parts fascination and criticism. While Indian Matchmaking carefully and successfully swats away stigmas that surround the concept of arranged marriage—that marriages are forced, or that individuals lack the freedom to make their own decisions—critics have highlighted that the show reinforces heteronormativity, divisions between social classes, and discrimination based on skin color, ethnicity, and status. And while the series mostly opts to steer clear of those conversations, our concern for the (mostly) likable, relatable cast on their search for love runs deep. But the series leaves its cast members’ fates rather open-ended, and some drama has publicly aired since the show debuted last week. So here’s an update on where they are now, but spoiler alert—according to interviews conducted by the L.A. Times and OprahMag.com, all the show's couples have dissolved, and none of the cast members are currently engaged or married. Sima’s algorithm might need an upgrade.

Nadia Jagessar

Justice for Nadia, the world’s most eligible bachelorette. But also...since the show landed on Netflix, her first heartbreaker fling of the series, Vinay, has publicly decried Netflix’s version of the events that transpired in their relationship, as well as regaled his version of events to fans via DMs. Nadia hasn’t commented directly on the matter, but did write that “So many people asked if this was staged or scripted or fake in any way and I can assure you it wasn’t (at least not from my end)!” in one of her Instagram captions. Nadia also told the L.A. Times that she is no longer talking to Shekar, the Chicago-based lawyer, either citing a change in dynamic once their talking shifted to off-camera. The Jersey-based wedding planner is still on the market.

Pradhyuman Maloo

The 30-year-old jewelry designer was resistant to marriage from the outset, rejecting hundreds of prospective wives that Sima proposed to him throughout the series. Things seemed hopeful for Pradhyuman and model Rushali, though, but unfortunately things did not work out. “We had different paths in life and we respected that and moved ahead,” he told the L.A. Times, admitting that he is “still looking for the right one.” His instagram features more of the same artful cooking that he showcased on the show.

Aparna Shewakramani

Netflix, if you’re listening, would absolutely watch an Aparna spinoff dating show. The fiery Houston-based lawyer is currently still single, despite her and Jay's promising goat yoga date and mutual agreement that kids should not attend weddings. Although they drifted, Jay Wadhwani told OprahMag.com that the two have reconnected since the show dropped onto Netflix last week. "Now that the show is coming back, we're talking much more frequently. It's like, who knows? There's still hope. There wasn't a clear reason why we stopped talking. It was more just that we lived in different cities," Jay said. "I'm not saying that this is going to happen—but from my perspective, it's not off the table."

Vyasar Ganesan

The lovable Vyasar is still on the hunt for his life partner. While neither of his matches in the show panned out, he told the L.A. Times that he is “grateful for the memories I have from working with Sima.” For now he’s on Twitter, shielding his students' eyes from the thirsty memes about him.

Akshay Jakhete

25-year-old Akshay had the most traditional of the matchmaking processes outlined in the series. Although the show features his pre-engagement ceremony, he told the L.A. Times that the engagement was never finalized, and the two were never married. Although he wouldn’t specify what occurred, he hinted that his trust was broken. “There were some things which we found out that did not go down well with us, and eventually I called it off,” he said. “I’d rather wait and be with the correct person than be stuck with the wrong person. So I am single right now and still looking for the right one.” We're sure his mom is super chill about that.

Ankita Bansal

It won’t come as a surprise that Ankita did not end up married after her stint on Indian Matchmaking. Her journey on the show towards a realization that her career was more fulfilling and important to her right now was a powerful arc, and she’s still working away at her denim empire dreams today.
