  • Rumors surrounding Tom Selleck’s Blue Bloods departure are growing, and fans are feeling anxious about the possibility of him leaving the show.

  • Thankfully, the 76-year-old actor set the record straight.

After more than a few shows have killed off (or created off-screen storylines for) some fan-favorite main characters (Law and Order: SVU and Grey’s Anatomy, we’re looking at you), it’s hard not to speculate how other TV hits would fare without their biggest characters.

Namely, fans can’t help but wonder what will happen to Blue Bloods if the rumors of Tom Selleck leaving are true. In January, fans noticed that ads were popping up about the actor leaving the show and, possibly, quiting acting all together. Here's what we know:

Is Tom Selleck leaving Blue Bloods?

Luckily, the website Snopes confirmed that the ads surrounding Tom leaving were a scam, adding: "Further, there had been no announcement by any reputable group that Selleck was leaving Blue Bloods, nor did he issue any final words before leaving the stage forever. In the past, a number of popular blogs had published stories about when he might leave the series. However, most of those articles were speculation."

And Tom himself seemingly addressed his and the show's endpoint with PEOPLE, and it seems like, hopefully, he'll continue to play Frank Reagan for as long as the show's on air.

"I don't think there is an endpoint," he told the outlet in May 2020. "I think there is a lot of life in the show, as long as you let your characters grow and get older."

Beyond the capacity for the show to grow, Tom admitted that his time on set is some of his most cherished, for he loves the fellow actors that surround him.

“Our dinner party scenes are like a reunion of friends,” Tom told PEOPLE. “Sometimes it’s hard for the directors to get us to concentrate. We do the work, and we do it well, but we’re also screwing around and kidding each other and catching up. What we have is truly a blessing.”
