Here’s Katie Thurston and Blake Moynes’s Relationship Timeline Before Their Bummer of a Breakup

There was only one man Katie Thurston was running and jumping on after her season of The Bachelorette, and it was Canadian hottie Blake Moynes...until they announced their breakup on Monday. They spent a few months making public appearances post–Bachelorette finale, but ultimately their 'ship didn't last long. 💔
While they weren't engaged for a long time, you can still find a relationship timeline of what went down (*reverse chronological order*) since most of Katie and Blake's history is, well, from the show. Here's what we know about their relationship, pre-split ofc.
October 2021: Katie and Blake split up :(
Sadly just a couple months after Katie’s season of The Bachelorette aired, she and Blake announced their breakup.
They both posted the same statement on their individual Instas, which reads:
"It is with mutual love and respect that we have decided to go our separate ways. We are so grateful for the moments we shared together and the entire journey that has unfolded this year, but we ultimately have concluded that we are not compatible as life partners, and it is the most caring choice for both of us to move forward independently. We ask for kindness and privacy as we both navigate this transition. Both of us will forever want the best for one another and ask you to please support us in our decision."
There's no word yet on what exactly sparked the split, but the respectful joint statement is a good sign that it was at least a cordial breakup.
August 2021: Blake proposed to Katie on TV!
Katie’s season of The Bachelorette ended on August 9, 2021 exactly how she wanted: with a whole engagement! One the show’s finale, after Katie and Blake each said super sweet, super gushy words to each other, Blake dropped down on one knee and popped the question.
Later that night (but not on national TV), Katie and Blake both posted IG pics sharing their joy at finally being public. “So excited to start our best fucking life!” read part of Blake’s caption. Blake also dropped a precious lil nickname for Katie: “Buggy.” Adorbs.
Also, based on Katie’s post, it seems that the couple is heading to Canada for some reason. To move? To visit Blake’s family? So. Many. Questions! We’re not sure of the reason at this moment, but once we know, trust that you’ll know too.
August 2021: Katie and Blake had an amazing fantasy suite date
The August 2 finale featured Blake’s fantasy suite date, which included a paintball balloon fight and champagne in a hot tub. Later in the evening, Blake told Katie exactly how he felt about her, dropping the L-word for the first time: “I love you and I’m fucking really excited about life with you,” Blake said.
“I fucking love you so much and I couldn’t be happier that you’re here,” Katie responded. They ended the night with maple syrup desserts and a trip to the fantasy suite.
The next morning in a lil debrief with cohost Kaitlyn Bristowe, Katie said she was “plenty satisfied, many times” on the sleepover. Love to hear it.
August 2021: Hometowns went smoothly for Katie and Blake too
Katie obviously chose Blake as one of her final four, and hometowns, which aired on August 2, were a big deal for each of them.
Hometowns were where Blake’s *true* feelings for Katie were solidified. “It was when you took off your high heels and we were playing hockey. You scored a point and you were backpedaling backward after you scored it and your hands were in the air and you yelled, ‘Go America!’ And it was when I remembered that moment, that without thinking about it and without trying to think about it, I just realized. I said to myself like, ‘Fuck, I love her.’” Who’s cutting onions in here???
Needless to say, Katie hit it off with Blake’s fam, so much so that his mom gave her a Canadian flag dildo?! I would have loved to be a fly on the wall for that gift exchange, truly.

August 2021: Let’s talk about THAT boombox moment
After sending Connor B. home during what was supposed to be the evening portion of their one-on-one date, Katie was a wreck. But then good ol’ Blake showed up in pure rom-com style, holding a blaring boombox over his head while Katie looked down from the balcony. She told him to come up, and ofc they sucked each other’s faces off.
July 2021: The couple’s first one-on-one Bachelorette date went super well
In Katie and Blake’s first one-on-one date on the July 5, 2021 Bachelorette episode, they went horseback riding and connected over their sex-positive attitudes. Katie even opened up to him about her assault.
The pair made out pretty much the entire date and ended with a private Laine Hardy concert. “Memorize You” is now ~their song~ and, honestly, what a perfect fit.
June 2021: Blake arrived on the show *late* and it was a whole thing
In episode 4 on June 28, 2021, Blake showed up on Katie’s season completely out of the blue. But he wasn’t a complete stranger like pretty much all the other guys who had been there from the start.
“I definitely knew who he was, which (was) also Tayshia’s ex-boyfriend!,” said Katie to Us Weekly about her now-fiancé. “We had chatted before, but usually what happens is, like, the guys will reach out to the women once they’re eliminated and be like, ‘Good luck, you did great.’ Like very generic, you know? And so to see him, I was like, ‘Why is he here?’ Like, ‘What’s happening?’”
Pre-June 2021: About the rumor that they “chatted before”...
Katie caught Blake’s eye after she was a contestant on Matt James’s season of The Bachelor. When Katie came out of the limo with her pink vibrator to meet Matt (lol), Blake was smitten at “the fact that she had the balls to have fun with it” and knew he had to say something to her, he said on the July 1 episode of the Click Bait podcast.
His DM was simple: “It was like, ‘I fucking love that you did that. That was fucking awesome, like, good for you,’ like, this and that.” But even with the casual message, Katie low-key wasn’t having anything go down in the DMs. “Her responses were very cold back,” said Blake on the podcast. “She was nice, but she didn’t open up for dialogue in any way. It was shut down right then and there.” Oop.
