Here’s how Justice League Dark will be a different kind of comic book movie

‘Justice League Dark’ has been in the works for a long time.

It was originally devised by Guillermo del Toro back in 2012, with appearances from the likes of Deadman, the Spectre, Swamp Thing, John Constantine, Zatanna, Zatara, and even Etrigan the Demon.

But while it’s still in the works at Warner Bros, the film has taken a bit of a turn.

Doug Liman will now be directing DC’s supernatural heroes instead of del Toro… and it sounds as though he wants to do something very different.

During an interview with CinemaBlend, new director Doug Liman revealed how his take on ‘Justice League Dark’ will be a very different kind of comic book movie.

“I think people will be surprised how character driven and how intimate Justice League Dark is — in kind of a field of bloated comic book movies,” he explained. “We’ve found a way to do something that’s actually really personal and small, and that’s my goal.”

And he even compared the project to his latest movie…

“[My new movie] The Wall is about character. The scenario allows me to dive into what I think is… I just love people! I love putting people in crazy situations. For John Constantine, we have an amazing set-up for him for Justice League Dark that’s really human.”

His upcoming film ‘The Wall’ is set in just one location, featuring only three characters.

Does this mean that ‘Justice league Dark’ will be a more intimate affair?

It certainly sounds as though Liman’s take on the film will be less of an action-packed blockbuster, and perhaps a more thoughtful, intimate take on the story of John Constantine. Considering the approach of the previous ‘Constantine’ movie, perhaps that’s a good idea.

Who will be joining Constantine?

Well, recent reports suggest Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon will be joining him. But as for what they’ll be getting up to, that’s anyone’s guess.

“What remains unclear is the mysterious plot that the group will be facing — but I have to say that when I heard Doug Liman’s approach, I couldn’t help but internally think about a haunted house set-up.”

Obviously, that’s just speculation…

But a ‘haunted house’ movie with the ‘Justice League Dark’ could be a stroke of genius.
