Do you know somebody who puts ketchup on everything?

Heinz and Fortnum & Mason might’ve come up with the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for them.

2020 seems to be the year of the weird alternatives to flowers. Firstly we had the chicken nugget bouquet and then Co-op came out with the ice cream cones that look like roses.

Now, we might have stumbled upon the wackiest of them all.

Heinz and Fortnum & Mason are two pretty iconic parts of British culture. It seems fitting, then, that they would collaborate on this.

Let’s get into the details.

Each box comes with nine chocolate truffles in - all of which are made entirely by hand.

It features a mixture of white, milk and dark truffles. They’re hard-shelled truffles, too and that’s probably because soft truffles and ketchup would probably congeal in a very non-appetising way.

The insides are filled with blonde chocolate ganache and Heinz Tomato Ketchup.

We hate to say it, but we might be coming round to the idea.

What’s not to love? Fortnum & Mason, yum. Chocolate, yum. Ketchup, yum.

“The bright and tangy tomato flavour from the ketchup bursts through the silky creamy rich ganache with a sweet finish.” According to Heinz.

These limited edition truffles are only available for a short amount of time. They go on sale tomorrow (30 January) and we expect they’ll stop being sold after Valentine’s Day is over, but they haven’t announced a definite date.

They can be bought online and are also available at the Piccadilly, St. Pancras, The Royal Exchange and Heathrow Terminal 5 locations for £19.95.

This isn’t the start of Heinz and Fortnum and Mason’s relationship, either.

In fact, it dates back all the way to 1886.

Apparently, Henry J Heinz came over to the UK from America with crates of his products to sell to the very best London stores.

When he arrived at Fortnum’s, the buyer at the time was so impressed he told Mr Heinz he’d take them all.

The relationship didn’t end there, Alexandra Bayet, sauces marketing manager, at Heinz explains: “The Heinz and Fortnum & Mason relationship goes way back; they were our first UK stockist back in 1886, together we celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with special edition Heinz Beanz in 2012, and last year Fortnum and Mason helped us celebrate our big 150th birthday with the launch of Ketchup Caviar.

“And they also happen to be some of the best master chocolatiers around. So, it only makes sense that we celebrate the most romantic day of the year together with one of the most prestigious Valentine’s Day pairings.”

Fortnum & Mason’s confectionary manager, Sophie Young isn’t worried that this combo will be too much for some people: “They have developed something truly and unexpectedly delicious, showcasing Fortnum’s ability to create unique and exciting pairings that will capture the attention of ketchup enthusiasts and satisfy even the most sophisticated of palates.”

Ok, we’re sold.
