Heinz isn’t one to shy away from controversy and now, the sauce giant has sparked a fiery social media debate after launching ‘Mayochup’ in the US.

A fusion of ketchup and mayonnaise, the hybrid promptly divided condiment connoisseurs when Heinz introduced the new sauce.

Many American Twitter users took to the social media platform to call out the company for copying ‘fry sauce’ – a mixture of tomato sauce and mayonnaise which is often served with chips in Utah.

One social media user wrote, “This whole Mayochup nonsense has got to stop. You’re not clever or original Heinz, it’s called Fry Sauce & it’s been around for ages. If culturally appropriating a condiment was a real thing, you would be guilty of it.”

While a British Twitter user pointed out the similarities between Mayochup and Marie Rose sauce [sic]: “This is just seafood sauce/marie rose/salsa rosa I’m shocked that it’s only reaching the US now and appalled you’ve decided to call it ‘Mayochup'”.

But for those of you in the UK thinking you’ve dodged a household debate, then you’ll be less-than-pleased to learn that Heinz may well be launching the product in the near future.

This morning, the company took to Twitter to launch a poll asking British users if they’d like to try out Mayochup too. If the post receives 50,000 votes for ‘yes’ then you’ll soon spot the divisive sauce on supermarket shelves.

Within a mere matter of hours, the post has already received over 9,000 votes and a large majority of the comments are positive.

One Twitter user took to the poll to write, “Dream come true”.

While another praised the company for its latest launch: “Sweet, now I’ll never have to mix the two together anymore. Heinz is doing it for me… good things come to those who wait”.

So the question remaind, will you be voting yes or no?
