HBO Orders Family Drama From ‘Six Feet Under’ Creator Alan Ball

HBO has given a series order to an untitled family drama from “Six Feet Under” creator Alan Ball, TheWrap has learned.

The untitled series focuses on a contemporary multi-racial family: a philosophy professor, his lawyer wife, their three adopted children from Somalia, Vietnam and Colombia, and their sole biological child.

This seemingly perfect, progressive family is in actuality harboring deep rifts. Then, one of the children begins to see things others cannot. Is it mental illness? Or something else? The series is a tragicomic meditation on the complicated forces at work on us all in America today.

The project is the first under Ball’s new two-year overall deal with the network he’s previously worked with on “Six Feet Under,” as well as “True Blood.” He also served as executive producer on the Cinemax series “Banshee” during its four-year run.

Ball will serve as executive producer on the new series alongside Peter Macdissi.

Deadline first reported the news.
