Prince Harry is reportedly feeling "devastated" and "guilty" over the royal wedding shakeup caused by Meghan Markle's dad AKA his future father-in-law, Thomas Markle.

The father of the bride has been in the headlines in the past few days after he was accused of getting paid for staged paparazzi photos, and he announced he would no longer attend the royal wedding as a result of the scandal. Today, Thomas changed his mind and said wants to go to the royal wedding after all, but is unsure if he'll make it because he's in the hospital for severe chest pains.

Prince Harry, who hasn't met Thomas Markle yet, is reportedly taking the drama personally. "Harry feels guilty that this has happened to someone he loves because they are in a relationship with him," a friend of the couple told Daily Mail.

"He is devastated," the insider added. "He feels that anyone who gets associated with his life – this is the price they have to pay. He wants to protect her and this is really difficult for him to swallow."

Royal correspondent Roya Nikkhah echoed those sentiments to CBS This Morning: "He'll be mortified and deeply hurt because he will feel that he's not protecting Meghan's family."

Kensington Palace responded to reports of Thomas Markle's possible absence from the royal wedding with a brief statement yesterday: "This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding. She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation."

The rest of the royal family was reportedly "blindsided" by Thomas Markle's announcement, per TMZ. They apparently had prepared security detail, accommodations, and access to certain events for him, since he was supposed to arrive in the UK and meet members of the clan this week. Daily Express reports that the Queen is "very angry" with her grandson's future father-in-law over the matter.

Meghan, however, has taken a more forgiving stance and "would still like him to come," according to Entertainment Tonight.

Thomas Markle said his daughter reached out to him yesterday, which influenced him to change his mind and want to attend the royal wedding after all. The bride-to-be tried calling him but he wasn't at his phone, so she left him a text saying she loves him and is concerned for his help, he told TMZ.
