Harry Potter Spin-Off Fantastic Beasts Nets Jon Voight
‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ has just cast a trio of new actors… with the legendary Jon Voight among them.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 76-year-old screen legend has signed up for the upcoming ‘Harry Potter’ spin-off… along with some other familiar faces.
“Gemma Chan, who stars in [Channel 4] sci-fi thriller Humans, Selma actress Carmen Ejogo and Jon Voight have joined the cast of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” they said. “Warner Bros.’s fantasy set in the world of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter.”

‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ follows the story of Newt Scamander – played by Eddie Redmayne – a magizoologist who travels the globe, studying magical creatures.
Set around 70 years before Harry Potter reads his eponymous book in the movies, it’s unclear quite how the film will tie into the rest of the franchise… aside from the literary connection.
But who will Jon Voight and his new co-stars be playing?
Unfortunately, that’s being kept under wraps, as THR reports that “character info for the latest trio to join the film was not revealed.”
Jon Voight is perhaps best known for the 1969 hit ‘Midnight Cowboy’ and is currently starring in the Showtime TV series, ‘Ray Donovan’.
Gemma Chan is more likely to be known for her TV work, starring as the glassy-eyed android Mia from the Channel 4 series, ‘Human’. But she’s also starred in BBC’s ‘Doctor Who’ as well as ‘Sherlock’ and even the recent movie ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’.
Carmen Ejogo is set to star opposite Ethan Hawke in ‘Born to Be Blue’ – the upcoming biopic of Chet Baker. But she’s perhaps best known for the role of Corette Scott King in 2014’s ‘Selma’.
Of course, this trio join an already stellar cast, currently comprising of Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, Colin Farrell, Dan Fogler and Samantha Morton.
‘Harry Potter’ regular David Yates will be directing, based on a screenplay by J.K. Rowling.
‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ heads to cinemas on 18 November 2016.
