The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have stopped following all of the Royal Family accounts on Instagram.

But there’s a good reason for it.

To mark Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK (13 - 15 May) Harry and Meghan have decided to only follow Instagram accounts which are promoting well-being, self-care and body positivity for the next month.

The organisations they’ve chosen include Heads Together, Anxiety UK and the Born This Way Foundation. But interestingly among the 16 accounts are two personal ones - Bryony Gordon and Matt Haig.

Telegraph columnist, author and mental health campaigner Bryony Gordon persuaded Prince Harry to speak about mental health on her podcast Mad World in April 2017.

During the interview, the royal revealed he “came very close to a complete breakdown” after failing to deal with his feelings around his mother’s death. Harry was only 12 when Princess Diana died in a car accident in Paris in 1997.

Author Matt Haig wrote his 2015 memoir Reasons to Stay Alive about his experiences of living with depression and anxiety.

The novelist has also written books for children, which encourage them to talk about their mental health.

Harry and Meghan explained on their Instagram post: “Each month we will honour this same concept and change the accounts we solely follow based on a different theme or cause.”

The duke and duchess are now just days away from welcoming their first child. While details around the birth will be kept private, photos of the newborn are expected to be released within a few days of his or her arrival.
