Harry Maguire: Man Utd desperation revealed in new transfer asking price for West Ham, Tottenham target
Manchester United have reduced their asking price for Harry Maguire in an attempt to sell the defender this summer, according to a report.
Maguire might have to leave Man Utd this summer if he wants to avoid his career stagnating. He has been behind Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and even natural left-back Luke Shaw in the pecking order for a starting centre-back role since Erik ten Hag took charge.
It has been a significant fall from grace for Maguire in recent years. However, some other clubs still have faith in the England international.
According to Football Transfers, Man Utd have now dropped their demands for Maguire in order to facilitate his exit. Per the website, they will be asking for a transfer fee of just £40million to part company with their number five.
It would only be around half of what they originally paid Leicester City to sign him for themselves back in 2019. But it might be the best that Man Utd can hope for at this stage.

First of all, Man Utd will have to find some potential buyers for Maguire. The report has named Tottenham Hotspur or West Ham as potential takers.
However, Tottenham’s pursuit might have been more likely if they went for Brendan Rodgers as their next head coach. Instead, the current leading candidate appears to be Arne Slot.
West Ham ones to watch in Harry Maguire transfer battle
Therefore, Europa Conference League finalists West Ham might actually be the club to keep an eye on when it comes to the race for Maguire, even though there is still some uncertainty about who will be leading them next season as well.
Three Premier League games and the FA Cup final remain on Man Utd’s schedule before the summer transfer window. Therefore, Maguire still has a chance of saying farewell to the club on the pitch.
In reality, the 30-year-old remains under contract at Old Trafford for another two years at least. However, it feels like time for Man Utd to listen to offers for him – and for him to listen to other clubs’ proposals.
Maguire has made just 15 Premier League appearances this season, only seven of which were starts. He has also played 15 times in cup competitions under Ten Hag, including a brief cameo when they won the Carabao Cup final.
