Harrison Ford Discusses Han Solo’s Star Wars 7 Fate

What did Harrison Ford think of his ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ storyline?

It sounds as though Han Solo himself was rather pleased…

During a live Tumblr Q&A with Entertainment Weekly, the 78-year-old ‘Star Wars’ legend revealed that he was happy with Han Solo’s sub-plot in ‘The Force Awakens’.

“I think it’s a fitting use of the character,” he explained. But if you haven’t seen ‘The Force Awakens’ and don’t know what happened, you might want to stop reading.

“I’ve been arguing for Han Solo to die for about 30 years,” he added, “not because I was tired of him or because he’s boring, but his sacrifice for the other characters would lend gravitas and emotional weight.”

And you can’t really argue with that.

Of course, Han Solo finally met a sticky end in ‘Star Wars 7’… at the hands of his own son, Kylo Ren. Begging his son to come home, Solo gives him the choice to do what he will, but as the two embrace, it becomes obvious that something is wrong.

And that’s when poor Han Solo is struck down by his son’s lightsabre.

But this isn’t the first time Harrison Ford has wanted Han Solo to die.

Back last year, he revealed his thoughts on the matter, stating that “the best utility of the character would be for him to sacrifice himself to a high ideal and give [the movie] a little bottom.”

And that’s exactly what happens – giving his own son the chance to redeem himself.

Even if he isn’t quite sure how it’ll turn out.

Of course, Han Solo’s demise was one of the more emotional aspects of the movie, with many fans utterly devastated by the death of a fan favourite.

Was it the right move? It’s certainly an unforgettable moment for ‘Star Wars’ fans… and Harrison Ford finally got his wish to see Han Solo sacrificed for the greater good.

‘Star Wars 8’ heads to cinemas on 15 December 2017.
