'Halloween Kills' still aiming for 2020 release
Halloween Kills is staying put on its 16 October, 2020 release date. At least, for now.
The sequel to David Gordon Green’s 2018 Halloween which starred Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, filmed in Autumn last year, way before the coronavirus pandemic shut down production, and its producer Jason Blum says its still on track to launch this year.
“We’re trying to get that trailer out and trying to get that movie out before the end of the year,” Blum told Entertainment Weekly. “That’s our hope, dream, and plan. We’ll see.”

Many 2020 releases were pushed back months, some even in 2021, after cinemas and productions were shut down earlier this year in response to the pandemic. But horror maestro Blum, who is promoting Kevin Bacon’s new haunted house film You Should Have Left (UK release date TBC), has kept Halloween Kills firmly on its coveted pre-31 October release slot.
As for what we can expect from the follow up to the hugely successful franchise recalibrator, Blum remained tightlipped (“If you liked the previous one, you'll like this one, I’ll say that,” is all he told EW), but what we do know is that it will be closely followed by another sequel – Halloween Ends – in October 2021.
Earlier this year Blum, the head of Blumhouse, promised Kills would feel like a complete film rather than just a middle chapter setting up a conclusion.

“[Halloween Kills] feels like a complete movie. There’s a first, second, and third act. It has a big end,” he told io9.
“You still know from the end of the second movie where the third movie is going, but the second movie ends in a totally satisfying way.”
Directed by David Gordon Green and written by Green, Danny McBride and Scott Teems, Halloween Kills stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Nick Castle returning as Laurie Strode and Michael Myers, with James Jude Courtney also portraying Myers. Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Kyle Richards, Charles Cyphers and Nancy Stephens and Anthony Michael Hall also star.
