It’s no secret that the supermodel set continue to seek inspiration from Princess Diana’s ‘90s wardrobe with cycling shorts, oversized sportswear and chunky trainers back on the fashion agenda for millennials far and wide.

So it was only right that Hailey Bieber paid sartorial tribute to the late royal in a now-viral fashion editorial.

The 22-year-old model played dress-up in a series of looks made famous by Princess Diana for the pages of Vogue Paris and reignited our obsession with her Kensington Palace closet in the process.

With the help of photographer Gregory Harris and stylist Virginie Benarroch, Bieber recreated some of Princess Diana’s most iconic paparazzi shots from her off-duty post-gym attire to one of the mother-of-two’s most legendary polo get-ups.

In a number of the images Bieber shared via Instagram, she’s decked in oversized sports sweatshirts, lycra biker shorts and ‘dad’ trainers.

The images are sure to trigger nostalgia for fans with references to Diana’s Harbour Club uniform - a clever fashion tactic designed to stop the paparazzi from getting new photographs of her.

For instance, she’d regularly throw on her navy Virgin Atlantic jumper, a garment gifted to her by close friend Sir Richard Branson in the late 1990s.

“She felt there were far more important issues to focus on in the world then her gym attire and therefore decided that wearing the famous Virgin sweatshirt to every session, would be a good way to stop the media frenzy,” her former personal trainer, Jenni Rivett, recently revealed.

In another shot, Bieber pays homage to a second history book worthy ensemble which Diana wore to cheer on Prince Charles in a polo match in 1988.

We’re talking a baseball cap, sports jumper and vintage blue jeans tucked into cowboy boots with a blazer thrown into the mix to complete the Sloane Ranger aesthetic.

Taking to Instagram to tease the shoot, Bieber credited the royal for inspiring her headline-worthy street style.

“All credit and inspo to the amazingly beautiful and iconically stylish Princess Diana who I’ve looked to for style inspiration for as long as I can remember,” the model wrote. “Thank you for leaving behind such an iconic fashion and style legacy.”

The photoshoot sure pleased royal fans across the globe too with social media users praising the magazine for its “iconic tribute”.
