Hailey Bieber leads the 'boyfriend bob' hair trend into 2023
Bona fide beauty icon Hailey Bieber is a consistent source of modern day inspiration when it comes to skincare, manicures, make-up and hairstyles, regularly sharing her looks on social media alongside product recommendations. This new year is proving no exception; with the model and businesswoman just debuting a hair makeover that feels very of-the-moment. All hail Hailey’s blunt bob.
Revealing the look in a TikTok video captioned "Oops 🔪👩🏼🍳💇🏼♀️," she styled the cut – which ends just above her shoulders – with a centre parting and straight, flat finish. She also shared similar snaps on her Instagram Stories, before taking the look out and about in New York City, wearing a relaxed yet tailored outfit with contrasting fits featuring a mini skirt and oversized coat.
The styling, including her new haircut, had a minimalist ‘90s feel to it, demonstrating that the decade is still having a sizeable influence, sartorially speaking, in 2023.
Hairstylist Duffy, who styled models’ hair in a nod to '90s grunge using Ghd at the spring/summer 2023 Victoria Beckham show explains: “The ‘90s was more about attitude than anything else. Which bleeds into our individual styles and strengths. Your hair is a representation of the attitude you chose to present.” This can be clearly seen with Bieber, who over recent years veered away from her then signature California blonde, in favour of a sophisticated rich brunette.
This colour change worked beautifully with her overall look of simplistic elegance featuring clean silhouettes, tonal hues, and the occasional unexpected detail. Her new year boxy bob feels like an evolution of this understated glamour, and – no doubt – it will feed into her fans’ style choices this year too.
