Gwendoline Christie Joins Steve Carell in Untitled Robert Zemeckis Project

Gwendoline Christie has joined the cast of Robert Zemeckis‘ untitled Universal drama, which tells the true story of one broken man’s fight as he discovers how artistic imagination can restore the human spirit.

Steve Carell stars as Mark, a man who builds a miniature WWII-era village as a way to recover from a violent assault. Christie will be playing his Russian caretaker, Anna.

Janelle Monae, Diane Kruger and Leslie Mann are also set to star.

Christie is best known for her role as Brienne of Tarth in HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and stars opposite Nicole Kidman and Elizabeth Moss in “Top of the Lake.” Appearing as Captain Phasma in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Christie will also return for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” this Christmas.

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Zemeckis (“Forrest Gump,” “Flight,” “Cast Away”) directs and produces from a screenplay he wrote with Caroline Thompson.

Oscar-winning producer Steve Starkey (“Forrest Gump,” “Flight”) and Jack Rapke (“Cast Away,” “Flight”) of Zemeckis’ Universal-based ImageMovers banner also produce, alongside Cherylanne Martin (“The Pacific,” “Flight”). It is executive produced by Jeff Malmberg, who directed the 2010 documentary upon which this film is based, and Jackie Levine.

Vice president of production Maradith Frenkel and director of development Chloe Yellin will oversee the project on behalf of Universal.

Christie is represented by WME and Independent Talent Group in the U.K., and Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein.
