'God is a woman': Twitter users lose it over Gwendoline Christie's Emmys outfit

Before the 2019 Emmy Awards even managed to get under way, Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie was already trending on Twitter courtesy of her red carpet ensemble.

The star, who was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Brienne of Tarth, arrived at the ceremony in a medieval-style Gucci gown.

Hot from the Italian brand’s 2020 Resort collection, the look played on historical dress thanks to its billowing sleeves, sweeping cape and gold accents – an Alessandro Michele masterpiece.

Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for social media users to catch wind of the look, with a number stating that perhaps “God is a woman” after all.

“Gwendoline Christie is my religion,” one Twitter user declared.

“If Gwendoline Christie's Emmys look isn't on a prayer candle and sold on Etsy by the end of the Emmys, wyd (what you doing) internet?” a second chimed in.

Others referred to Christie as a sheer masterpiece worthy of replacing all of the art in the Vatican.

“Gwendoline Christie looks like a painting,” one fan tweeted.

Another added, “All art in the Vatican has been replaced.”

The actress famously nominated herself for Outstanding Supporting Actress as a tribute to her onscreen character.

Christie was joined by co-stars Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) in the category.

But it was Julia Garner of Ozark fame who took home the coveted gong.
