Guardians of the Galaxy tops list of most deadly Hollywood films

Marvel sci-fi adventure ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ has been named Hollywood’s most-deadly, according to a new study.

The study, carried out by comparison website Go Compare, tallied the amount of on-screen fatalities in Hollywood films since the 1940s and found that in 'Guardians’ 83,871 meet an unfortunate end.

James Gunn’s hugely successful superhero movie has 78,184 more deaths than 2014’s 'Dracula Untold’, which sits in second place with 5,687. 'The Sum Of All Fears’ sits third with 2,922.

The 'Lord of the Rings’ series, 'The Matrix Revolutions’ and fellow Marvel movie 'Avengers Assemble’ also made the top 10, which you can see in full below.

Gunn, who is currently in post-production for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′, reacted to the news on Twitter, saying: “ So I guess GotG is now the deadliest film in movie history. By, like, a lot. Um, yay?

Given the study specifies on-screen deaths, that must discount films like 2009’s 'Star Trek’ and the original 'Star Wars’, which both blew up populated planets in long shots.

According to the study, the number of on-screen deaths in movies has increased over the decades. Just one film had more than 50 deaths in 1940, versus the four films released in 2014 that made the top ten.

In 1950 four films featured over 50 deaths, rising to 33 in 1960, 44 in 1970, 84 in 1980 and 119 in 1990.
