‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ opened to an interstellar debut.
According to Exhibitor Relations, the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ sequel has earned an impressive $101.2 million opening weekend… and it hasn’t even premiered in the US yet.
“Still hooked on a feelin’ and high on box office believin’–Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 debuted with $101.2M int’l this weekend.”
And it’s apparently done even better than the original.
“Guardians Vol. 2 debuted 57% better than the OG: UK ($15M) OZ ($11M) GER ($8M) FRA ($8M) MEX ($7M) BRZ ($7M) ITA ($4M)”
The film has reportedly opened in 37 markets overall… but is yet to open in the USA and China – which could prove to be an even bigger boost to the film’s first couple of weeks. It opens in both the USA and China later this week.
But will ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ manage a record-breaking haul?
It’s already tracking a lot of buzz online, and as we know from the likes of ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, Marvel sequels tend to build on the success of their predecessors. Also, let’s be honest – the first movie was a huge surprise hit – surely the sequel will do even better?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Kurt Russell, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Sylvester Stallone, and Pom Klementieff.
James Gunn both wrote and directed the movie.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ opened in cinemas on 28 April 2017.
