Gretchen Barretto makes amends with niece

The singer-actress urges fans not to bash Claudia Barretto again after their previous misunderstanding

29 Jun - Gretchen Barretto has recently apologised for calling niece, singer Claudia Barretto an ungrateful child, following a misunderstanding concerning the latter's recent interview.

As reported on Rappler, the singer-actress previously expressed her frustration with the younger Barretto, after the latter refused to be compared to her during an interview.

Claudia, who prides herself of being the singer in a family of actresses, stated, "I think we're very different. Like our songs and our voice, it is different, so I don't mind."

"I mean, it's nice to know that someone else actually sings," she added.

Gretchen, who was influenced by the comments from fans about how disrespectful Claudia was, called her an ungrateful child and reminded Claudia that she gave her a "safe home for a few good years" before her sister Claudine Barretto took over.

However, a few days later, Gretchen backtracked on her words, saying that she is more understanding of Claudia after talking to her daughter and Claudia's cousin, Dominique and reading the comments wrote by the singer on her Instagram, where Claudia claimed that her response was taken out of context.

The older Barretto wrote, "I am learning the very painful way that as a mother, we must be selfless, we must forgo hurt, disappointment, we must be more understanding [and] patient, we must ignore the pain that our children make us feel, we must embrace them through their flaws and love them [unconditionally]."

She also urged the public not to bash Claudia, adding, "Please allow us all to heal peacefully. I ask for forgiveness from my Instagram followers for spreading hurt and bitterness on my post. I ask for forgiveness from Claudia for making her go through this hurt. Dominique my little one, you make me human in spite of all the pain. Thank you and I love you will never be enough."
