Greg Berlanti Is Developing Immigration Drama ‘Casa’ at The CW

The CW is set to tackle the hot-button issue of immigration in a new drama developed by Greg Berlanti.

“Casa” will follow six siblings in a Hispanic family who have to band together to survive when their parents get unjustly deported.

Writing partners Ed Gonzalez & Jeremy Haft wrote the project and will executive produce with Berlanti.

Immigration has also been featured as a prominent storyline on The CW’s “Jane the Virgin,” with Jane’s grandmother having an ongoing arc of trying to legalize her standing in the US after decades as an illegal immigrant, constantly afraid of deportation.

“Casa” makes super-producer Berlanti even busier this development season. On top of being the executive producer of four DC comic book adaptation series, “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Legends of Tomorrow” and “Supergirl,” all on The CW, as well as midseason Archie comic book adaptation “Riverdale,” he is also developing another DC Comics adaptation, “Black Lightning” at Fox. In addition, he is developing soapy, twisted drama “The Marquis” at ABC with Julie Plec.

Gonzalez and Haft were previously staff writers on Fox’s “Empire.”
