'Green Lantern Corps' set to feature both Hal Jordan and John Stewart
Ever since it was announced that Warner Bros. would be rebooting Green Lantern, fans have been eagerly awaiting to know just which iteration of the DC Comics hero will take the lead.
Would it be Hal Jordan? Would it be John Stewart? Now we know it’s going to be both.
Geoff Johns, the DC Entertainment president who stepped down from the role this week, will pen and produce the script and his production company’s website confirmed that both Jordan and Stewart will be rocking their rings in the new film Green Lantern Corps.
Mad Ghost Productions has been set up in the wake of Johns’ decision to leave his executive role in order to focus more on the creative side of his career.
The website says that Green Lantern Corps is “based on his New York Times bestselling series that saw an impressive nine-year run, spawning additional spin-off titles and comic book events.”
It doesn’t look like the film will be an origin story, rather a space buddy movie which sees Jordan and Stewart, both human, drafted into the intergalactic police force.
Johns was involved in the 2011 Green Lantern film, starring Ryan Reynolds, but only in a producer capacity. Logan and Blade Runner 2049 scribe Michael Green co-wrote that script, which was unfortunately ridiculed by most critics upon the film’s release.
Green told Yahoo Movies that he hoped Ricky Whittle would get a chance to play Stewart in the remake.
“I’ll probably get angry texts if I don’t say what’s in my heart which is that Ricky Whittle would make a fantastic John Stewart,” Green said.
Johns will likely be co-writing the script with David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes who were originally brought in to pen the film.
Green Lantern Corps is set for release on July 24, 2020
