The Great Wall: Matt Damon trolled for being the saviour of Asia

The Great Wall
The Great Wall

Remember how Matt Damon built a reputation as someone who needed constant saving? Well, not any more. As it turns out, all Damon needed to do was get cast in The Great Wall as a mercenary in ancient China (yawn). And we all know how crucial white people were in the Middle Kingdom back then.

The Great Wall has just opened Stateside to a lacklustre box office showing, not to mention the mocking of Asian fans. Fed up with the constant whitewashing of Asian roles in Hollywood (I’m looking at you, Emma Stone in Aloha, and no, I don’t care how adorable you are), Asian Netizens took to Twitter to troll Damon in the funniest possible way.

Which is a little unfair when you consider that Damon seems like a genuinely nice guy, who has done lots of humanitarian work. But we still love these memes, starting with this one of Damon as Hua Mulan, the legendary Chinese female warrior who went to battle (dressed as a man) on behalf of her father.

They also showed their gratitude in the most Asian way possible – kowtowing

But that’s not all. Damon apparently contributed more to Asian history and culture too.

Chopsticks

And Hollywood fantasy worlds too
