BBC One's "The Great British Bake Off" reached a new viewing record on Wednesday, reports Deadline, beating out the network's viewings of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The seventh season of the popular cooking show inched out the network's top-watched moments of the Rio Games, with 11.2 million viewers compared to the Games' 11.1 million viewing peak.

The program follows a group of 12 amateur bakers who take a crack at different baking challenges, under the watchful eye of judges Mary Berry, an English food writer, and Paul Hollywood, a baker and celebrity chef.

"The Great British Bake Off" has gained in popularity since it began in August 2010, becoming the UK's most-watched TV program of 2015.
