Grace Wong: I nearly quit showbiz!

24 Aug - Her popularity has been on the rise since starring in the Jazz Boon drama "A Fist Within Four Walls" as Fa Man, the powerful Bajiquan fighter and leader of a striptease dance troupe.

But according to Grace Wong, her path to fame has not been an easy one.

As reported on HK01, the actress, who started off as the first runner-up at the Miss Hong Kong 2007 pageant, stated that she had thought about giving up before, but was unable to leave due to her contract with TVB.

"I considered 20008 as the peak year of my career, following Miss Hong Kong and "Strictly Come Dancing". But then I starred in "Born Rich" (2009). Since my Cantonese wasn't that good, I tried to act with my expressions. People said that I exaggerated," said Grace.

In addition to lacklustre performances, Grace was also facing financial problems.

It was during this time that good friends Candice Chiu and Janet Chow took her to a church, where she regained her confidence and found herself a godmother.

"She took me in at my lowest, gave me a place to stay, and solved all my financial issues," she said.

Grace also addressed previous rumours about her supposed wealthy family, saying that it was just a misunderstanding.

"I came from an ordinary family. We don't have that much income," she said.

Nonetheless, despite all that had happened in the past, Grace considers herself one of the lucky ones who are managed by a company such as TVB that has given her a lot of opportunities in her career.
