Google Teams With Netflix for ‘Stranger Things’ Scavenger Hunt

Google has teamed up with Netflix for a unique promotion of its Allo messenger app: New York City-based Allo users can head down to Soho this Friday, October 28, to take part in a “Stranger Things” scavenger hunt. There will even be 80s-themed prizes, including a BMX bike and a boombox.

Google introduced Allo earlier this year as an instant messenger with direct access to Google’s artificial intelligence-powered assistant. Allo users can not only chat with each other, but also ask the assistant questions. In this case, asking “Where is Barb” unlocks the first clue, giving players the exact location to visit.

Apparently, there’s a mind control vending machine waiting for players somewhere, according to Engadget, which was first to report on the scavenger hunt.

Allo users who don’t live in New York won’t be able to play, but there will still be some Upside Down goodness for them: Google’s messaging app is also getting a “Stranger Things” sticker pack for those special moments when you just have to talk with blinking holiday lights.
