SELLERS: Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell
LOCATION: Pacific Palisades, CA
PRICE: $7,250,000
SIZE: 6,389 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Hollywood icons Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have officially put their casually outfitted yet still luxuriously appointed home in the quietly ritzy Riviera area of Pacific Palisades, CA, up for sale at $7.25 million. The unmarried but long coupled pair purchased the vaguely Colonial style residence, which listing details laud as one that “exudes character and a feeling of ‘home,’” in August 2004 for $4,124,590. The rambling, two-story house sits privately on flat, .41-acre parcel behind a high hedge and an even higher row of trees and measures in at 6,389-square-feet, according to online marketing materials, with five bedrooms and five bathrooms.

A charming Dutch-style front door somewhat jarringly set into an architecturally formal doorway topped by an elegant swooping pediment leads to a comfortably furnished living room flooded with natural light from a gigantic skylight. There are also chatoyant medium toned brown hardwoods, a bank of floor-to-ceiling bookshelves filled with actual books, and French doors to the backyard. The formal dining room, with yummy over-sized six-over-six pane sash windows, does a not entirely successful decorative mixy-match dance with Shabby Chic elements such as a distressed metal frame around a large mirror and opulent accents like the teardrop shaped antique crystal chandelier. The eat-in kitchen is certainly spacious and undeniably expensively equipped but unfortunately sports a rather dizzying cacophony of multi-colored checkerboard patterns that show up on the back splashes, on the hood over the commercial style range, on the table top in the dining area, on the curtains, on lamps, candlesticks and decorative plates, and even on a ceramic pot or two. On the main floor a duplexed guest suite has a built-in desk, lofted sitting area and French doors to the backyard while the “large romantic master wing” offers a television surmounted river rock fireplace set between built-in bookshelves in the sitting area of the bedroom, dual closets, and chandelier-lit bathroom with garden tub, steam shower and dry sauna. Listing details indicate one of the upstairs bedrooms is outfitted as a “gym/pilates room,” that a “welcoming media room” overlooks the swimming pool, and that somewhere on the property there’s a “separate meditation room.”

Miz Hawn, who will return to the silver screen next year for the first time in 15 years in an as yet unnamed mother/daughter comedy with dernier cri comedienne Amy Schumer, and Mister Russell, who has two action flicks in the hopper (“Fast 8” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”), used to own the mansion across the street until they sold it in 2004 for $12 million to Adam Sandler — he later also bought the house next door — and, after they first attempted to sell it in 2011 with an exceptionally rose-colored asking price of $14.749 million, finally unloaded their Bali-inspired beach house along Malibu’s Broad Beach in 2013 for $9.5 million. Our research shows the couple continue to own a 5,722 square foot home on 1.1 landscaped acres in a fancy gated golf development in Palm Desert, CA, they acquired in 2003 for $3.615 million as well as a multi-residence ranch property just outside of Snowmass, CO, a vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley north of Santa Barbara, and a 3,549-square-foot penthouse apartment in a Midtown Manhattan high-rise they picked up in 1997 for $3.85 million.
