SINGAPORE — Golden Village (GV) will be holding its 13th Love & Pride film festival dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community next month.

A selection of seven international and local films will be screened at the festival in GV VivoCity, GV Suntec and GV Grand from 4 to 16 October. Six of the films are rated R21 and one is rated M18.

Among them are “BROS”, a romantic comedy by filmmakers Nicholas Stoller and Judd Apatow, “The Teacher (我的靈魂是愛做的)”, a Golden Horse award-winning film about a gay teacher fighting for the freedom to love in Taiwan, and “Some Women”, about a transgender woman director in Singapore who explores her life journey in the conservative city-state.

The theme for this year’s festival is “Celebrating Freedom and Acceptance” to celebrate the progress made by countries around the world in accepting the LGBTQ+ community in mainstream society.

GV recognises the key role that Singapore’s biggest multiplex operator plays to ensure cinemas are inclusive across society, its CEO Clara Cheo said.

“We started the Love & Pride Film Festival 13 years ago when sentiments around accepting those from the LGBTQ+ community into mainstream society wasn’t as prevalent as it is today. Since then, public sentiment has shifted to become more accepting of those of an alternative lifestyle and our theme this year highlights that shift,” Cheo said.

The opening night of the festival on 4 October will feature the screening of BROS as well as a cocktail and drag act by Vanda Miss Joaquim, the stage name of Singaporean drag performer Azizul 'Izzy' Mahathir.

Opening night tickets are priced at $38 for GV Movie Club members and $40 for the public. Tickets for the subsequent days of the festival are priced at $15 for GV Movie Club members and $17 for the public.
