Golden Reel, Make-up and Hair awards: 'Hacksaw Ridge,' 'AHS: Roanoke,' more

"Hacksaw Ridge" had already won sound awards at the Australian Academy and Satellite awards

'Hacksaw Ridge' pulled ahead at the 2017 Golden Reel awards with a double win, while the "La La Land" stylist received a lifetime achievement award from the Make-up and Hair Stylists Guild where "American Horror Story: Roanoke" won in three categories.

"Hacksaw Ridge" won two accolades at the 30th Golden Reel Awards, an annual prizegiving for the Motion Picture Sound Editors society held on February 19, 2017.

One was Dialogue and ADR in a Feature Film, the other for Sound Effects and Foley.

In the 29 years since the Sound Effects and Foley award was first distributed, its winner has won Best Sound Effects at the film industry's Academy Awards ceremony 15 times.

Eight of those 15 Oscar conversions have come in the last 10 years, so "Hacksaw Ridge" seems likely to receive at least one of the six Academy Awards it is up for.

The ceremony's other sound editing trophies went to "Moana" (Animation Feature Film,) "The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble" (Feature Documentary,) Norwegian "The King's Choice" (Foreign Language Feature,) "Warcraft" (Music in a Feature Film,) and "La La Land" (Music in a Musical Feature.)

At the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild's annual ceremony the same day, five feature film awards went to five different films.

They were "Nocturnal Animals" (Contemporary Make-up), "La La Land" (Contemporary Hair Styling), "Suicide Squad" (Period and/or Character Make-up,) "Hail, Caesar!" (Period and/or Character Hair Styling) and "Star Trek Beyond" (Special Make-up Effects.)

Musician and actress Cher appeared in a video tribute to hair stylist Barbara Lorenz of "La La Land," "Charlie's Angels" and "Episodes," who was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award, as was Leonard Engelman of "Heat," 1984's "Ghostbusters," "The Shield" and, like Lorenz, "Batman Forever."

In TV, 18 separate categories brought more opportunities for multiple wins.

"American Horror Story: Roanoke," the series' sixth season, won Contemporary Hair Styling and Special Make-up Effects for a TV miniseries or TV movie, and its TV promo won for make-up in the combined commercials and music videos category.

Its double winners were "Game of Thrones," "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story," "Westworld," and "So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation."

"Dancing with the Stars," "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" remake, Dior's "Absolute Femininity" advert with Charlize Theron, "A Chorus Line," "Amadeus," "The Real" and "The Young and the Restless" were the event's other award recipients.
