I must confess, I’ve been an avid user of both Uber and Grab, until the Singapore-owned company Grab bought over Uber’s Southeast Asia’s operations, thus absorbing some of its operations. The then scenario has Grab monopolising the region, and I constantly find myself impatiently cursing under my breath for longer waiting times and more exorbitant fares. What happened to healthy competition?

So I’ve decided to try the Gojek app, which is a new Indonesian-hailing service from our neighbour. Downloading the app from the Apple Store was a breeze. Next, a fun illustration is followed by an introduction that explains the app’s beta version but, as DBS customers, you’ll get priority access! Now the beta app simply means drivers will only fulfil rides beginning and ending in the eastern and south-central part of Singapore. Got it.

I enter my DBS code. This was 9.30 in the morning, and I’m on the waiting list with an exclusive $5 off for 2 rides promo codes! Yay!

By 6pm, I received a notification that I’m included in the list and I could start using the app.

As I have plenty of assignments in town, I compare the prices between Gojek and other rival hailing apps.

Gojek gives me $1 bill for a 4.7km destination, while another rival app quoted me $26 because the demand is high. Oh, say what!

So guess which one I’ll be using for the time being? Have you tried the Gojek app? Share with us your experience below in the comment section.
