SINGAPORE – Visitors are invited to experience G(e)lamping at the Malay Heritage Centre (MHC) this December and immerse themselves in the rich Malay cultural atmosphere of the Kampong Gelam heritage precinct.

MHC is opening up its compound for the Kampong G(e)lamping @ MHC programme and inviting the public to experience glamping with a fun-filled itinerary across two days. Discover cultural gems during the 2 Days 1 Night programme, and get to spend a night under the stars at the lovely grounds of MHC, a National Monument situated at Kampong Gelam.

For the experience, two cosy tents will be set up for the group – one furnished with two queen-sized beds as well as a hammock, and the other for a night-time cinematic experience with a projector screen, speaker and bean bags. Both tents will be equipped with decorative lights, a portable aircon and fan to keep the heat out, and fresh linens and quilt for extra comfort.

Included in the G(e)lamping experience is also a guided heritage tour of Kampong Gelam precinct. The two-hour-long tour will take them to the iconic murals of Haji Lane, help them discover new perspectives from local bakers and tea-makers behind the speciality shops in the district, and also reveal lesser-known stories of iconic landmarks such as Sultan Mosque. The group will also be treated to a specially curated tour of MHC’s galleries, including its upcoming Urang Banjar: Heritage and Culture of the Banjar in Singapore special exhibition.

Personal chef and culinary instructor Ruqxana Vasanwala will be preparing an indulgent Malay dinner of specialities such as Nasi Kerabu and sambal tempe in an outdoor set-up in front of the G(e)lampers.

“We are always looking for creative ways to showcase our rich cultural heritage to Singaporeans. During this time of travel restrictions, we wanted to introduce a different and novel local experience – to G(e)lam-p up Singaporeans’ staycation plans and allow them to rediscover new facets of Singapore’s heritage through this one-of-a-kind overnight experience,” Ms Asmah Alias, General Manager of MHC shared.

From 15 to 24 December, a group of up to five can book the G(e)lamping experience, with one slot available per day. The experience will be open for booking tomorrow (23 October), 12 pm, on a first-come-first-served basis, on MHC’s Facebook and Instagram. Each slot is priced at S$450 and can accommodate up to five individuals, which can include adults and children (two years and above).

MHC will also be conducting a giveaway of one slot for one lucky group of up to five pax on their Facebook page. The giveaway will be conducted from 30 October to 6 November 2020, and more details will be released closer to the dates.

All of the set-up and activities offered will adhere to the prevailing safe management measures and G(e)lam-pers will have to adhere to the general safety management measures at MHC during their visit.
