"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" gets a whole new story in TV adaptation

27 May – Good news for "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" fans, there's a whole new TV series adaptation coming your way!
It will be a standalone spinoff series focused on the main character Lisbeth Salander, as per Variety's report.
That means it will not be a continuation to either the story from the books or the previous movie adaptations. It will instead feature a whole new story, placed within today's world in a whole new setting and, with the exception of Salander, will feature all new characters.
There is no actress attached to lead the series yet, and no word on whether any of the previous actresses who portrayed the character on the big screen will be reprising it for the new TV series.
Amazon Studios is producing the series, along with Left Bank and Sony Pictures Television. Founder and CEO of Left Bank Pictures, Andy Harries, will serve as executive produce along with Rob Bullock.

Salander is the main character in the "Millennium" book series by Stieg Larsson, three of which the author completed before his death and were published from 2005 to 2007, while another three were continued by David Lagercrantz and published from 2015 to 2019.
Four of the books have received movie adaptations, with Noomi Rapace starring as Salander in the first three Swedish-language movies based on "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", "The Girl Who Played with Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest".
These movies were also turned into the 6-episode "Millennium" miniseries, a compilation of all three movies with additional scenes.
Rooney Mara took on the starring role in the English-language 2011 movie adaptation of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", but was replaced by Claire Foy in 2018's "The Girl in the Spider's Web".
