Singapore’s arts precinct Gillman Barracks will be celebrating its fifth anniversary on Friday (22 September) with a slew of festivities happening as part of its Art After Dark open house event.

New York-based artist Ryder Ripps will be in town to showcase a two-part multimedia installation. Entitled “Diventaro Schiavo”, his work consists of a virtual reality experience called “Virtual Reality Reality” and a sound installation called “Voice of God”.

Various types of porcelain from Japan’s Arita region will be showcased by local art gallery Supermama as part of the second edition of its Porcelain & Craft Festival. Visitors can separately shop for lifestyle artisanal products at the Makers’ Market, which will be held at one of the carparks.

The Ryan Foundation, owned by Singaporean lawyer and art collector Ryan Su, will be presenting a collectors’ show as part of the celebrations. Entitled “Re|Collecting Asia – Collections from Singapore Private Collections”, visitors can look out for items by Singapore-based art collectors as well as overseas artists. The showcase is curated by local curator Khim Ong.

A total of five new art exhibitions will be launched across five respective galleries, three of which are solo exhibitions by artists Adeel Uz-Zafar, Angki Purbandono and Antonio Puri. The remaining two are an exhibition that pays homage to one of Singapore’s first generation artists, Chen Wen Hsi, and a multi-disciplinary performance by collective Kaizen M.D., directed by Aung Ko from Myanmar.

The NTU Centre for Performing Arts will present a lecture performance by arts practitioner Zarina Muhammad and choreographer Stefania Rossetti entitled “Exhibition (de)Tour: Flowers from our Bloodlines”.

Music lovers can take part in workshops by well-known DJ equipment brand Pioneer DJ and catch performances by homegrown acts Disco Hue, Strangerfox and Linying. Visitors can also look out for food pop-up stalls by local F&B brands Neon Pigeon, Bird Bird, The Lab SG, Super Loco and Soi 55.
