Gigi Hadid explained why she has been keeping her pregnancy off social media as she showed off her baby bump for the first time on Instagram Live on Wednesday.
The model confirmed reports that she was expecting her first child with boyfriend Zayn Malik in April, but she has kept quiet about her pregnancy ever since, with her wearing loose-fitting clothes during Instagram Live talks.
During a fan Q&A to promote her Gigi Journal: Part II book, in collaboration with V magazine, she addressed comments from fans who asked why she didn't look pregnant and gave them a glimpse of her bare bump.
"All I want to wear is loose stuff. Everyone's like, 'Oh, you didn't look pregnant in your jumpsuit on your last live.' That's because, this way, this is how I'm normally going to look in this," she said, before unbuttoning her patterned shirt to show off her bump. "There's my belly y'all. Like, it's there. From the front it's different."
The 25-year-old explained to viewers that she has been keeping a low profile because she doesn't feel ready to share her pregnancy journey with the world.
"I love you all and I love your positive messages, I’m just taking my time in sharing my pregnancy and you guys will see it when you see it," the catwalk star said. "I'm trying to document it well because I've heard a lot of people say, 'Obviously make sure you don't miss it'... I'm not in a rush to do it and I feel right now I just want to experience it and I don't want to worry about waking up every day during my pregnancy and worry about having to look cute or post something."
She also explained that she has been writing in her journal a lot and regularly sends updates to her family and friends, but she hasn't been referring to her pregnancy much publicly because she wants to keep the focus on the Covid-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Gigi, who is self-isolating at her family's farm in Pennsylvania, is rumoured to be due in September.
