Gigi Hadid has posted a Twitter thread defending her love of wearing comfortable clothes in public.

The Beastie Boys may have sung about fighting for their right to party, but it seems all the 24-year-old supermodel wants is to be able to dress down without negative feedback.

Hadid is frequently pictured in an eclectic mix of outfits ranging from high-end designer looks on the catwalk (which often show off her slim figure) to her off-duty style which consists of oversized tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

On Tuesday this week, Hadid was pictured stepping out in Manhattan, New York, wearing a pair of black leggings, a sweatshirt, a puffer jacket and trainers. Her hair was worn pulled back in a casual bun secured by a scrunchie.

And it would seem she’s tired of attracting criticism for some of her more casual looks – as she posted tweets yesterday saying she refuses to “dress differently” despite people’s “petty complaining”.

It appears she was responding to a now-deleted tweet from a fan account.

The Twitter thread continued, with Hadid says she is “over the snarky comments”.

The thread has received a mostly positive response from fans, who reassured Hadid she should wear whatever makes her feel comfortable.

Hadid’s tracksuit bottoms and trainers aesthetic is part of a growing streetwear trend which is often attributed to the influence of OffWhite designers Virgil Abloh.

Similarly, Justin and Hailey Bieber are often seen sporting casual looks while out and about – and the latter even wore a wedding dress designed by Abloh, which featured a graffiti-inspired quotation on the skirt.

The likes of Kanye West and Kylie Jenner are also upholders of the casual, street-style aesthetic.

Earlier this year, Hadid contributed to one of the most memorable fashion weeks moments in history as she strong-armed a catwalk crasher out of the Chanel show.
