“His plethora of off-Broadway credits included Martin Crimp’s The Treatment at the Public Theater, All That I Would Ever Be at New York Theatre Workshop, and The Accomplices at the Acorn Theatre,” they explain.

In fact, he was a regular on New York’s many stages from the 1950s to mid-2010s… with his first Broadway performance in the 1973 revival of The Iceman Cometh.

And you might even recognise him from his numerous TV appearances.

David Margulies appeared as Tony Soprano’s lawyer in the hit TV show ‘The Sopranos’ as well as making notable appearances in ‘NYPD Blue’ and ‘Touched By An Angel’. He also stars in the upcoming ABC miniseries, ‘Madoff’.

“So sad [to] hear of #DavidMargulies passing,” said actress Jill Hennessey who worked with Margulies on ‘Law & Order’. “Crazy-talented & HILARIOUS on a set… good times at craft service… love 2 family & friends.”

It’s unknown whether Margulies would have made a cameo appearance in the upcoming ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot – currently in production with director Paul Fieg.

But the no-nonsense New York mayor remains a firm fan-favourite.
