Georgia King Joins Martin Wallstrom on Isaac Ezban’s Bron Production ‘Parallel’
Georgia King (“Vice Principals,” “Kill Your Friends”) is joining Martin Wallstrom (“Mr. Robot”) on Isaac Ezban’s sci-fi thriller “Parallel,” an early project from The Realm, the multi-genre label set up last year by “Birth of a Nation” producers Bron Media.
Written by Scott Blaszak and produced by The Realm in association with Creative Wealth Media, “Parallel” marks the English-language debut and first film made out of his native Mexico of writer-director Ezban who turned heads with “The Incident” and ‘The Similars.” Two elevated high-concept low-fi sci-fi thrillers, they established Ezban as a talent to track on the Hispanic auteur genre scene. Both brought an allegorical edge to a fantasy narrative.
A time-warp narrative, as “The Incident,” “Parallel,” which goes into production in Vancouver on Nov. 9, looks set to follow a similar premise. King and Wallstrom play two of four young app entrepreneurs who discover a mirror in the attic of their rental house. It turns out to be a portal to parallel universes, with a time differential that makes it possible for them to access the future of these alternate worlds and bring it back home, according to the films synopsis.
King plays Leena who finds in the mirror the chance to fulfil a personal goal and re-discover herself, Ezban said, adding that she is “like the female heroine of the movie.”
“Parallel” “uses sci-fi to reflect on real human subjects like ambition. It’s a great classic story of playing with the fire from the gods, but taking place in the modern world of technology, social media, start-ups, apps, etc.,,” Ezban added saying that the film is like “Flatliners” meets “The Social Network,” “classic sci-fi with a modern sci-fi touch.”
Said King: “I had a chance to see Isaac’s previous films ‘The Incident’ and ‘The Similars’ and believe they are extraordinary. His visuals and exploration of the extremes in people were stunning, shocking, ugly, beautiful, frightening, bleak, poignant.”
Ezban is represented by the Paradigm Talent Agency and managed by Good Fear Management.
“The Incident” will bow in North America by the end of this year. “The Similars” will have its release in the U.S. and North America on Nov 15, via XLrator Media.
